City Judge & City Attorney

 

The City of White Sulphur Springs Municipal Court provides citizens with a fair and impartial court of law by interpreting and adjudicating applicable state laws and city ordinances. 

Our pledge is to uphold this commitment and offer courteous customer service to all citizens.  

 

Initial Appearances for Citations/Arraignments: 

Wednesday mornings at 11:00 a.m.

Other Hearings:

Wednesday afternoons at 3:00 p.m.

 

Contact with the court must be done on these days:

Mondays: 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. / 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. / 1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

City Court is closed on legal holidays and will convene on the next scheduled day.

Cell phones must be on silent/vibrate, preferably turned off.

  • Yes, the Court Judge will perform wedding ceremonies.

Do I need to have a marriage license to get married in the state of Montana?

  • Yes, you must obtain your license from the Clerk of the District Court and pay the cost. 
  • The phone number for the Clerk of the District Court is (406) 547-3030.

Who can perform marriage ceremonies in the state of Montana?

  • Any judge, including judges of state and federal courts, Justice of the Peace, minister, or other person of any religious society or sect authorized by the rules of such society to perform the marriage ceremony.

Is there a fee for having a wedding ceremony performed by a magistrate?

  • Depends. Contact the Judge to discuss. 

Can I customize the wedding ceremony and vows?

  • Yes, you can customize your wedding ceremony and write your own vows.
  • Below is an example of the standard script for the wedding ceremony and vows. Please go over the "Sample Wedding Ceremony" document and feel free to personalize it. 

Do I need an appointment to be married by the judge?

  • Yes, you should contact the court by:
    • Call the Court at (406) 547-3634.  Please provide your name and phone number, the name of your partner, the date and time of the wedding, the location and if you will be exchanging rings. The Judge will contact you. 
    • Stop in at the City Court and talk with the Judge.

How far in advance do I need to schedule an appointment to be married?

  • We need at least two days notice to schedule a wedding, however, the Judge may be able to schedule your wedding sooner.
  • Availability is based upon the Judges' court schedule.
  • You must have your marriage license in hand for the Judge to perform your ceremony. 

Can I use my own wedding vows? 

  • Of course you can use your own wedding vows. 
  • The Court also has vows that can be used.
